Description[edit | edit source]

A chance meeting at a convention between a video game executive and the creator of an obscure indie comic led to the creation of Chakan: The Forever Man.

Chakan is considered one of the hardest games on the Sega Genesis, if not THE hardest, in spite of the protagonist’s immortality. This is largely due to its last-minute rush onto the market. It is also considered a cult classic for its unprecedented horror atmosphere: in an era of cute mascot characters, Chakan plunged the young player into myriad nightmare worlds ripped straight from the imaginations of H R Geiger, Robert E Howard, and H P Lovecraft. The unkillable Chakan delved into places other heroes feared to tread, and even in its 16 bit presentation, it left gamers wishing they were anywhere else but here.

A Dreamcast sequel was in the works, but sadly canceled before we could follow Chakan on another journey through hell. So I’ve recreated the worlds of the original game in the Hexen engine, in the hope of bringing back some of the creepy ambience we loved so much in the original.
